3 Million Researchers Benefited from TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM EKUAL Project

The activities of the Electronic Resources National Academic License Project (EKUAL) launched by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM were introduced at ATO Congresium.

The activities of the Electronic Resources National Academic License Project (EKUAL), which is carried out by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) National Academic Network and Information Center (ULAKBİM) in order to strengthen the academic information infrastructure of our country and to meet the information needs that are the basic input of R&D activities at national level, and which was expanded with the support of the Ministry of Development in 2018, were introduced with a program held at ATO Congresium. Attended by 210 guests, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, President of TÜBİTAK, Mehmet Mirat Satoğlu, Director of ULAKBİM, and Emin Sadık Aydın, Director General of Social Sectors and Coordination at the Ministry of Development, delivered speeches.

TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal reported that approximately three million researchers benefit from the Electronic Resources National Academic License Project (EKUAL) launched by the National Academic Network and Information Center (ULAKBİM).

Stating that license agreements have been made for international e-information resources within the scope of the EKUAL Project, Prof. Dr. Mandal said, "Approximately three million researchers in 257 institutions and related organizations, including all state and foundation universities in our country and TRNC, including the Ministry of Health training and research hospitals, benefit from the National Academic Network and Information Center Electronic Resources National Academic License."

Prof. Dr. Mandal stated that the Ministry of Development provided 85 million liras of support for this work, and that the project was significantly improved. Pointing out that the EKUAL Project provides access to 18 e-databases, two plagiarism analysis programs, a reference management tool, 30 thousand electronic journals, 100 million bibliographic data, three million conference proceedings, 2.1 million master's and doctoral theses, Prof. Dr. Mandal said, "We are determined to further develop EKUAL services. We need to increase access to information, pave the way for researchers by increasing competition and increase the number of researchers so that we can reach the common goals of the country more easily."

Emin Sadık Aydın, Director General of Social Sectors and Coordination of the Ministry of Development, stated that the EKUAL Project will always enable the strengthening of National Academic and R&D activities in the importance and access to information based on the statement "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER".
