GEN6
GEN6 - IPv6 Based Public Services Pilot Project
GEN6 (Governments ENabled with IPv6) project is a multi-stakeholder ICT PSP initiative aiming to harmonize public IT infrastructures and e-government services with the IPv6 protocol in European Union member states. TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM led the "National IPv6 Pilot Studies" work package in Turkey and pioneered the IPv6 transition in e-government services. The applications and guidance documents developed under the project were presented as examples for transition processes in other countries. The pilot implementation in Turkey was shared with international stakeholders at the "IPv6 Roadshow" event organized in Eskişehir in 2015.
GN3plus
GN3plus - European Research and Training Network Expansion Project
GN3plus (GÉANT3+) is a project under the European Union's 7th Framework Program that aims to connect Europe's research and education communities through high-speed networks. The 24-month project, which started in April 2013, was carried out in collaboration with National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) in Europe. The project, which also involved TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM from Turkey, aimed to increase the capacity and service quality of the GÉANT network, which serves more than 50 million users worldwide. Within the scope of the project, innovative services such as identity federation, cloud services and mobility solutions were developed, and services such as eduroam and eduGAIN were disseminated. GN3plus strengthened Europe's digital research infrastructure and contributed to global scientific collaborations.
GN5-1
GN5-1 - European Research and Education Network Development Project (2023-2024)
GN5-1 is an initiative supported by the European Union's Horizon Europe program and represents the fifth phase of the GÉANT project. This 24-month project, which started in January 2023 and ends in December 2024, aims to deliver faster, resilient and secure connectivity infrastructure and collaboration services to Europe's research and education communities. The project provided Terabit-level connectivity in multiples of 100 Gbps, enabling scientists and students to collaborate effectively and securely with virtual research teams. It has also made significant contributions in areas such as developing identity and trust infrastructures, expanding open science services, and strengthening network security.
GN5-2
GN5-2 - European Research and Training Network Expansion Project (2025-2027)
GN5-2 is a European Union Horizon Europe project that builds on the success of the GN5-1 project and was launched in January 2025. This 30-month project aims to deliver faster, resilient and secure connectivity infrastructure to Europe's research and education communities. GN5-2 aims to expand access to new areas of research beyond traditional users, focusing on new technologies such as quantum communication, time and frequency allocation. It also contributes to strategic priorities such as supporting open science services, developing digital identity federations and strengthening Europe's digital backbone.
ULAKNET-3
ULAKNET-3 project The project aims to expand the electronic communication infrastructure established under the ULAKNET-2 project to provide researchers in Turkey with a flexible and sustainable infrastructure with high capacity, national and international connections, compatible with new technologies. Currently, the backbone structure of ULAKNET consists of the main collection centers in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir and the triangular backbone connections connecting these centers, and the integration of the ITU-Gebze line and the Eskişehir and Konya collection centers to the main backbone. Within the scope of the ULAKNET-3 project, it is aimed to redesign the existing infrastructure and include new centers, and to create a flexible structure with higher capacity, wider coverage and enabling the use of new technologies.
ULAKBIM University Informatics Infrastructures
The "University Infrastructures Disaster Recovery Center Project", which aims to protect the IT infrastructures of universities against possible disaster scenarios, was supported by the Presidency of Strategy and Budget (SBB) in 2024. In the first phase of the project, which is planned in two phases, it is aimed to securely store a backup of critical data owned by universities within TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM. In this context, the service will first be provided to 16 state universities affected by the earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023; afterwards, the project will be extended to all universities and data redundancy will be ensured in the IT infrastructures of higher education institutions across the country.
The second phase of the project aims to back up not only data but also services. Thus, in the event of a possible disaster, it will be possible to make the critical information systems of universities operational in a secure location over cloud-based infrastructures within the specified periods. In this way, the capacity of universities to provide uninterrupted services will be increased, and information loss and service interruptions that may occur in times of disaster will be minimized.
The ULAKBIM University Informatics Infrastructures Project (ULAKFKM) was developed in response to the critical need arising from data loss and lack of adequate backups at some universities following the February 6, 2023 earthquakes. This situation clearly demonstrated the need for secure and accessible data backups in universities whose system rooms were damaged, in order to restore the systems to operational status. Supported by the Strategy Budget Presidency (SBB) to meet this need, the project started in January 2024 within ULAKBIM. In the first phase of the project, it was aimed for universities in the earthquake zone to copy data to ULAKFKM. As of February 2025, the system started to provide service. Although the project is three years in total, the targeted steps until the end of 2026;

- Establishing a server infrastructure in the cloud for universities that want to host their data at ULKFKM
