As part of Open Access Week, we are pleased to share our active role in SCOAP³ (Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics), one of Turkey's international contributions to open science.

TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM is among the member countries that regularly pay the country contribution of the SCOAP³ consortium, which aims to present research in the field of high energy physics to the world through an open access publishing model. Thanks to this contribution, high energy physics articles from Turkey are made publicly accessible, and these publications are also made available to the national ecosystem through the Aperta Turkey Open Archive.

SCOAP³ Books: A New Era in Open Access

SCOAP³'s "SCOAP³ for Books" initiative, launched in 2019, is an innovative project that aims to make important textbooks and monographs in particle physics and related fields open access.

During the pilot period between 2021 and 2022, more than 90 books were made open access and a 13-fold increase in download rates was observed. Following this success, a permanent program was launched to ensure that 10-15 new books will be published as open access every year by 2023.

Through this international cooperation, TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM contributes to the spread of open access culture not only in scientific journals but also in academic books.
