TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM Director M. Mirat Satoğlu talked about Open Science and Digital Infrastructures at Near East University

M. Mirat Satoğlu, Director of TÜBİTAK National Academic Network and Information Center (ULAKBİM), said at the "New Horizons Science and Innovation Meetings" event series this month. "Open Science and Digital Infrastructures", Satoğlu explained the contributions of the open science approach to the research ecosystem and the role of digital research infrastructures offered by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM in scientific production.

The event organized by the Near East University Center of Excellence and Near East Research Innovation and Technology Area (NERITA) was held with great interest of academicians, researchers and students. Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy, as well as deans from various faculties and many graduate students attended the event.

TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM's Digital Research Infrastructures Introduced

In his presentation titled "Open Science and Digital Infrastructures", Satoğlu touched upon the aspects of open science applications that strengthen national and international scientific collaborations and emphasized that digital infrastructures increase the accessibility of scientific outputs by facilitating data sharing.

In his presentation, Satoğlu mentioned the important projects carried out by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM in the field of open science and publishing (Aperta, Harman, DergiPark, TR Index, EKUAL), high-performance computing and data infrastructures (TRUBA, ULAKNET), European cooperation and network projects (eduroam, eduGAIN), Cahit Arf Information Center (CABİM), MareNostrum5 Supercomputer and AI Factory initiatives, and explained the local and global importance of these services.

Satoğlu also evaluated the academic performance indicators of Near East University and stated that the successful rise in the scientific visibility of the university is pleasing.

Emphasis on Collaboration and Awareness for Open Science

In the focus group meeting organized as part of the event, views were exchanged on the integration of open science into the local research ecosystem, data management policies and the effective use of digital infrastructures. It was stated that the suggestions put forward at the meeting will shape the future programs of the event series.

Near East University Center of Excellence and NERITA President Prof. Dr. Murat Özgören, in his speech at the opening of the event, pointed out that open science plays a central role in contemporary research activities and emphasized the importance of such programs to increase interdisciplinary collaborations and scientific visibility.
