Organized by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM in collaboration with its partners, the 9th National High-Performance Computing Conference BAŞARIM 2026 brought together knowledge and expertise across a broad spectrum, ranging from scientific research to quantum technologies and from artificial intelligence to industrial simulations.

Organized as part of the EuroCC 3 Project in collaboration with TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, the Istanbul Technical University High-Performance Computing Center (UHeM), Middle East Technical University, and Sabancı University, BAŞARIM 2026 – 9th National High-Performance Computing Conference was held on October 14–16, 2026, at the Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center at Istanbul Technical University.

“Shaping the Future with High-Performance Computing”—the conference, organized under this theme, brought together academics, researchers, and experts from various fields, facilitating the sharing of current scientific developments, research findings, and practical experiences in the field of high-performance computing (HPC) and enabled the sharing of current scientific developments, research findings, and practical experiences in this field.

The role of high-performance computing infrastructure—which is becoming increasingly important in cutting-edge technology fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, and quantum technologies—in scientific research and industrial applications was discussed in various sessions of the conference.

Scientific research and next-generation computing technologies

The three-day program of BAŞARIM 2026—which featured invited talks, scientific presentation sessions, and the Young Researchers Poster Competition—provided researchers from various disciplines with the opportunity to share their work and foster scientific collaboration.

Guest speakers Prof. Dr. Philipp Schlatter, Prof. Dr. Cevdet Aykanat, and Prof. Dr. Özgür Müstecaplıoğlu shared their research, experiences, and the latest scientific developments in their respective fields with the participants.

During the scientific presentation sessions, researchers presented the work they conducted using high-performance computing resources, the methods they developed, and the results they obtained. The Young Researchers Poster Competition, meanwhile, provided young scientists with an opportunity to showcase their work in the field of high-performance computing, receive feedback from expert researchers, and share their scientific ideas.

The working groups addressed technical needs and opportunities for collaboration

During the three working group meetings held as part of the conference, emerging computing technologies and the needs of their scientific and industrial applications were evaluated.

At the conference titled "Edge AI Computing Architectures and Developments," edge AI technologies and approaches for effectively implementing AI applications across various hardware and computing environments were discussed.

At the meeting of the Quantum Computing and Quantum Technologies Working Group, participants discussed quantum algorithms, quantum machine learning, hybrid architectures that combine quantum technologies with high-performance computing, hardware access, and quantum infrastructure. Researchers and industry representatives discussed the technical needs, current challenges, and potential application areas in the field.

High-Accuracy Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in Industry: Challenges, Needs, and Opportunities The session highlighted the importance of high-accuracy numerical simulations in industrial applications. The session addressed the need for high-performance computing resources, technical challenges, and opportunities for enhancing academia-industry collaboration.

Artificial intelligence and quantum technologies were discussed during the panel sessions

During the two panels included in the conference program, the topics of artificial intelligence and quantum technologies were discussed in terms of reliability, national capabilities, and sector-specific applications.

As part of the BSC AI Factory, the Trustworthy AI Panel addressed reliability, ethical principles, and responsible AI approaches in AI systems, while participants shared different perspectives on the development and implementation of trustworthy AI technologies.

As part of the “National Competencies, Sectoral Opportunities, and Strategic Steps in Quantum Technologies” Panel, Turkey’s current competencies in the field of quantum technologies, opportunities for sectoral applications, and strategic priorities for the future were evaluated. Representatives from academia and industry shared their views on the development of the national quantum ecosystem.

The applications of artificial intelligence in the finance and legal sectors were on the agenda

At a networking event organized as part of the BSC AI Factory Project, supported by EuroHPC and the European Union, startups, SMEs, researchers, and public sector stakeholders developing artificial intelligence solutions in the fields of finance and law came together.

The event addressed the applications of artificial intelligence technologies in the finance and legal sectors, the role of high-performance computing infrastructure in these applications, best practices, and real-world experiences. The goal was to align technical expertise in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence with the needs of various sectors and to explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Contribution to the national high-performance computing ecosystem

BAŞARIM 2026, not only provided a platform for sharing scientific research but also enabled experts from various disciplines to assess common needs, discuss current technological developments, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

The conference, organized by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM in collaboration with its stakeholders, served as an important gathering aimed at fostering the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of high-performance computing and strengthening the interaction between Turkey’s high-performance computing ecosystem and various research and application areas.

We would like to thank the invited speakers who contributed to the conference, the researchers who shared their work, the young researchers who participated in the poster competition, as well as the workshop leaders, moderators, panelists, and all participants.
