eduroam turned 10 years old on September 1, 2018. We established the Turkish federation with METU and Ankara University and joined eduroam in the pre-production test phase on October 1, 2007. Today, eduroam has become a global success with more than one billion authentications every year at tens of thousands of access points in 90 countries.

Nowadays, research and education are becoming more globalized thanks to international collaborations doing research in all fields. This is why eduroam was developed: to provide simple, easy-to-use WiFi roaming services for academia.

Thanks to eduroam, visiting students, staff and researchers have a fast, easy and reliable way to get online without any IT support while they are visiting, as they have already set their eduroam settings (home settings) to access the WiFi service on their campus. Again, this way, IT teams do not spend time on guest users and can focus on their own work. In addition, thanks to tunneling, passwords and (with the right settings) usernames always remain personal and private to the home organization with a secure login system.
