TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, as a stakeholder, successfully completed the work of the two-year EuroCC Project, which started on September 1, 2020, and was included in the EuroCC 2 project. Within the scope of the EuroCC 2 project, which started its work on January 1, 2023, TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM has joined the EuroCC 2 project in order to enable our researchers in our country to get significant resource/computing time (GPU/CPU) from EuroHPC JU supercomputer systems. EuroHPC Calls Information Day Event organized.

On January 17, 2023, details about Regular Access, Extreme Scale Access and Benchmark & Development Access Calls, support mechanisms and access policies to systems were shared in the event held online via Zoom. In the event, Dr. Özlem Sarı from TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM made a presentation on "Regular & Extreme Scale Access" and Dr. Merve Demirtaş made a presentation on "Benchmark & Development Access" calls. In addition, Sabancı University faculty members Dr. Ogün Adebali and Dr. Emrah Akkoyun, who received support from EuroHPC calls, shared their experiences in the project application and process with the participants.

What is the EuroHPC Joint Venture?

The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) was established in 2018 to develop innovative and competitive high-performance computing in Europe; to extend the use of supercomputing infrastructure to public and industrial users; and to support the development of core High Performance Computing (HPC/HPC) skills for European science and industry. The first phase of the EuroHPC Joint Initiative aims to establish 3 supercomputers that will be among the top 5 in the world, 5 supercomputers that will be among the top 25 in the world, and to support research and innovation activities related to supercomputers through calls.

Turkey joined the EuroHPC Joint Venture on April 2, 2019. In this context, in 2023, Turkey will have direct access to one of the world's leading supercomputers with a capacity of over 150 Petaflops established in Barcelona. The supercomputer, in which Turkey is a partner in Spain and which is planned to be operational in 2023, has been named Mare Nostrum (Mediterranean) 5.

Apart from the Mare Nostrum 5 system to be established in Barcelona, "Pre-exascale" systems have also been established in Finland and Italy. The use of these systems by researchers from Turkey is possible through different calls for use to be opened by EuroHPC JU. In addition, access to the established Petascale systems and the systems to be established can also be realized by using the same call system.

Who Can Benefit from EuroHPC JU Resources?

The calls under the EuroHPC Joint Initiative are designed to serve research areas that have significant needs in terms of computational time, data storage and support resources and require large-scale computational resources.

EuroHPC JU resources are made possible through various calls opened by EuroHPC JU. Researchers from academia, research institutes, public sector, SMEs and industry from Turkey can apply to these calls since we are a member of EuroHPC JU and we take part in H2020. With these calls, access to computational and storage resources in installed supercomputer systems is granted.
