TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM held “TR Index National Academic Publication Symposium” in Antalya from 2 to 3 November 2017.
260 people, including editors, officials, publishers of periodicals and journal representatives, attended the symposium which was took place as a sequel to annual meetings organized in order to improve the quality and number, international visibility and impact of scientific periodicals originating from Turkey.
Mehmet Mirat Satoğlu, Director of TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, informed during his opening speech about the fields of activity of ULAKBİM and informational and documentary services rendered by Cahit Arf Information Center. SATOĞLU gave the good news that they would continue supporting the national publishing and the “National Citation Index”, where references could be measured and bibliographic measurements could be performed, would be put into service next year with the new infrastructure of TR Index.
Prof. Dr. Erol ARCAKLIOĞLU, Vice President of TÜBİTAK, presented his speech “TÜBİTAK AYEK, Ethical Practices and Issues” informing about the importance and details of ethics in publishing.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Umut AL from Hacettepe University talked about the things to consider in order to improve scientific quality of journals. The meeting continued with the presentations of editors of Web of Science and Scopus, International Citation Indexes, on the status of national journals in indexes, followed by 3 panels, namely “editorship”, “refereeing” and “ethics”, during which participants asked questions to get answers with some solution offers. TR Index experts shared information about TR Index processes and evaluation methods as well as the transition from TR Index to National Citation Index and what was expected from editors during the transition.
