First data was uploaded to TÜBİTAK Open Archive Aperta (https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.tr/), having an aim of becoming the largest data store of open science in Turkey.

Data of “Phylogenetic analysis of SARS-CoV-2 genomes in Turkey” written by Ogün ADEBALİ,  Aylin BİRCAN,  Defne ÇİRCİ,  Burak İŞLEK,  Zeynep KILINÇ,  Berkay SELÇUK and Berk TURHAN and published in Turkish Journal of Biology was the first data uploaded to Aperta. Data uploaded with the license of Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike was viewed 228 times and downloaded by 175 people on the week it was uploaded.

There are 48.656 articles on Aperta. Apart from the publications produced from TÜBİTAK-supported projects, the platform where the publications supported by SCOAP3 and TRUBA come together will also be an access door to the articles and data of TÜBİTAK Academic Journals.

Aperta, which was founded on InvenioRDM developed by CERN, stores many types of records like articles, texts, videos, audios, data archives and makes them searchable and citable. TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM actively contributes to the team established under the leadership of CERN to develop the new version of InvenioRDM.

As known, TÜBİTAK has demonstrated its determination to provide open access to scientific publications and research data by adopting the “TÜBİTAK Open Science Policy”. With this policy, the publications produced from the projects supported by TÜBİTAK are obliged to be uploaded to Aperta, TÜBİTAK Open Archive. It is recommended that the research data of these publications should have an open access. Within the scope of Open Science practices aiming to make scientific works more transparent and more participative with developing technology, it will be obligatory to upload research data to Aperta in coordination with EU programs.
