Developing Open Source Projects for Effortless Transformation of PARDUS
Launched in 2003 when President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was Prime Minister, PARDUS is a Linux-based open source operating system that can be downloaded and used free of charge over the internet. PARDUS, which has various desktop distributions such as KDE, GNOME and XFCE, continues to work within TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM to make it a competitive and sustainable operating system. As a result of the work carried out with TSE for the dissemination of PARDUS, quality standard criteria have been published, and it is aimed to establish a widespread support network consisting of companies that meet these criteria. In order for imported IT equipment to be compatible with Pardus GNU/Linux, the accreditation of hardware and DMO authorization infrastructure works were also completed. This paved the way for public institutions and organizations to be able to purchase compatible hardware from the DMO or procure it from companies when they want to use open source software and systems. In order to make the PARDUS transformation effortless, open source products are being developed for the software needed by public institutions and organizations and SMEs. The AKYAY (Open Source Dissemination) Project, supported by the Ministry of Development, and the Lider Ahenk Central Management System, EnGerek Identity Management System, Octopus Integrated Cyber Security System, and Interactive Board Interface System are the main products.
