Important cooperation between TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, the developer of the Pardus operating system, and AFAD
TUBITAK is entering the 100th anniversary of the Republic even stronger with important collaborations. A maintenance and application development contract was signed between the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and TÜBİTAK National Academic Network and Information Center (ULAKBİM), the developer of the Pardus operating system. Within the scope of the contract signed by M. Mirat Satoğlu, Director of TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, and Mustafa Havan, General Manager of AFAD Management Services, identified needs and special development requests will be met.
The IT team under the coordination of Nihan Karacameydan, Head of Information Systems and Communication Department of AFAD, which has been working with the Pardus team from time to time on issues such as the solution of various problems and the Corporate Pardus Software Center, has raised the cooperation to a more formal and corporate level with this contract. Most of the additional features to be developed within the scope of this service consist of software that is not specific to the organization and will appeal to the general user base. In this way, AFAD will not only be a model organization in terms of transformation and sustainability in the Pardus world, but will also continue to contribute to concrete outputs with the valuable feedback and ideas it provides.
Pardus is used in 81 Provincial Directorates of AFAD
In 2015, AFAD started to transform its IT infrastructure with domestic and open source technologies with the vision of "National Change with Domestic Informatics" and completed the transformation process to the national operating system Pardus in 81 Provincial Directorates in 2021.
With this contract, AFAD continues its "Pardus Migration and Digital Transformation Journey" without slowing down.
Pardus produces sub-projects to meet corporate needs
Pardus, named after the Anatolian pars, is a free and Open Source operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux. It is downloaded and installed free of charge over the internet. In addition to individual use, Pardus also has sub-projects that meet the corporate needs of public institutions and organizations and SMEs for easy dissemination.
In addition, 'LiderAhenk' Central Management System, 'Engerek' Identity Management System, 'Octopus' Integrated Cyber Security System and 'ETAP' Interactive Board Interface Project' continue to be developed within TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM.
TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, the most important information center of our country
TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM was established in 1996 as an institute affiliated to TÜBİTAK. As Turkey's most important information center, TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM operates Turkey's academic network infrastructure, contributes to the scientific studies of researchers with the TRUBA e-Infrastructure, and provides information/document services, which are the basic tools for R&D activities, on a national scale.
