The PHACT (Phylogeny-Aware Computing of Tolerance for Missense Mutations) paper, led by Sabancı University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Faculty Member Ogün Adebali and published in August in the Oxford MBE journal (https://doi.org/10.1093/molbev/msac114The data obtained from 5123 proteins belonging to Aperta Turkey Open Archive is now available to all scientists. With the recently uploaded data sets, the number of data in Aperta increased to 5133.
The study, which was the subject of the August cover of "Molecular Biology and Evolution", one of the world's most respected journals in the field of evolutionary biology, describes the PHACT algorithm, which can determine with high accuracy whether variants have a disease-causing effect.
Most of the numerical calculations in the paper were performed in TRUBA (Turkish National Science e-Infrastructure).
Ogün Adebali and his team are also the first scientists to upload data to Aperta. The article they uploaded, "Phylogenetic analysis of SARS-CoV-2 genomes in Turkey", was downloaded 578 times in a short period of time, helping the scientists in their work.
We would like to congratulate Ogün Adebali and his team for their contribution to the Turkish Open Archive Aperta by uploading the largest dataset, and we would like to thank Dr. Emrah Akkoyun, Chief Researcher at TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, who contributed greatly to the uploading of the data and took part in the project.
