"TR Index National Academic Publishing Symposium" was organized by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM on 2-3 November 2017 in Antalya.
The symposium, which was organized as a continuation of the meetings held every year to increase the quality and quantity of scientific periodicals with Turkish addresses, their visibility in the international arena and their impact value, was attended by 260 people from periodical editors, editors in charge, publishers and journal representatives.
In his opening speech, Mehmet Mirat SATOĞLU, Director of TÜBİTAK ULAKBIM, gave information about ULAKBIM's fields of activity and the information and document services carried out at the Cahit Arf Information Center. SATOĞLU gave the good news that ULAKBIM will continue to support national publishing and that the "National Citation Index", where citations can be measured and bibliometric measurements can be performed with the new infrastructure of TR Index, will be put into service as of next year.
TÜBİTAK Vice President Prof. Dr. Erol ARCAKLIOĞLU gave a presentation titled "TÜBİTAK AYEK, Ethical Practices and Problems" and gave information about the importance and details of ethics in publishing.
In the presentation made by Hacettepe University faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Umut AL, the issues to be considered in order to increase the scientific quality of journals were shared. The meeting continued with the presentations of the editors of Web of Science and Scopus, which are International Citation Directories, on the status of national journals in the directories, and presentations were made in 3 separate panels titled "editing", "refereeing" and "ethics", and solution suggestions were conveyed with questions and answers. TR Index experts shared TR Index process and evaluation methods, expectations from editors and the process of transition from TR Index to National Citation Index.
