The Turnitin MENAT 2021 summit was held online on November 8-9, with Turnitin leaders and guest speakers from the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey sharing their knowledge, insights and expertise on the latest changes in the education landscape.

During the two-day event, Turnitin's vision to support academic integrity and the assessment environment in the MENAT region was put under the spotlight.

In this first virtual summit organized by Turnitin in the MENAT region, TUBITAK ULAKBIM Director M. Mirat Satoğlu participated in an interview on "Collaborating with the academic community in Turkey to promote academic integrity in students".

Satoğlu conveyed TÜBİTAK's mission on academic integrity to the audience and explained the impact of the Turnitin-ULAKBIM cooperation on the academic community in Turkey, the benefits and difficulties experienced in this cooperation and the solution processes. In addition, he stated that TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM will continue to support the widespread use of tools such as Turnitin-iThenticate, where academic integrity is measured concretely, and that the sensitivity to this issue will continue.

Turnitin and iThenticate are plagiarism/similarity scanning programs that continue to be subscribed under EKUAL. iThenticate is a program that analyzes the similarity of articles and has been available to universities within the scope of EKUAL since 2011. Since 2018, the similarity analysis program Turnitin has been used for homework, project and thesis analysis.

Turnitin-ULAKBIM collaboration has raised awareness on academic integrity in our country. As a matter of fact, the importance given by TÜBİTAK to the issue has been emphasized in the academic integrity seminars organized by Turnitin since 2018. With this collaboration, it has been determined that the construction of academic integrity is more robust and easier when the right tools are used, communication between students and faculty has become healthier and concrete data has been obtained within the scope of the concept of academic integrity.
