Turkey is a member TERENA The 40th General Assembly of the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association (Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association) and the European Academic Networks Executive Committee Meeting were held in Geneva, Switzerland between 21-24 October.

ULAKBIM was also present at this meeting as a participant and supporter of the development of an international high quality information and communication network for research and education. The meeting was attended by TÜBİTAK ULAKBIM Director Dr. Ahmet KAPLAN participated. In these meetings, it was decided to increase the capacity of the fully redundant connection of the National Academic Network ULAKNET to the European Academic Network GEANT. Accordingly, by the end of 2013, it was planned to increase the capacity of the main ULAKNET - GEANT connection from 10 Gbps to 20 Gbps and redirect it to the Vienna uplink center and to redirect the backup connection with a capacity of 10 Gbps to the Frankfurt uplink center.

ULAKBIM is currently working to transform this network into a structure that uses open standards and is equipped with the most advanced technology available.
