2nd Public Open Source Conference KAK 2016 was held at TED University College Campus between October 17 - 20, 2016 with the support and contributions of Mr. Mehmet Mirat SATOĞLU, Director of TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM. With the support and contributions of Mr. Mehmet Mirat SATOĞLU, Director of TUBITAK ULAKBIM, and the Public Open Source Conference Organizing Committee, the conference was held at TED University College Campus between October 17 - 20, 2016.
The opening speech of the conference, in which the importance of the conference and the details about the use of open source technologies were emphasized, was delivered by Prof. Dr. A. Arif ERGİN, President of TÜBİTAK. The Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Mr. Şuayip Birinci, Türksat General Manager Cenk Şen, HAVELSAN General Manager Ahmet Hamdi Atalay and Ministry of National Education Yeğitek Department Head Dr. Yakup Yüksel also took the floor at the conference.
During the KAK'16 Conference, 307 people from the public and private sectors attended the trainings given in 4 different halls on open source technologies and current informatics issues, and 323 people attended the conference. With the panels organized on various topics, public institutions and organizations engaged in open source transformation had the opportunity to share their knowledge. At the conference, public institutions were informed about the open source technologies that they can use in their infrastructures and the National Operating System Distribution Pardus, and were given the opportunity to meet one-on-one with trainers and panelists about the technologies they will use in their institutions.
The Pardus project and its sub-projects were introduced by the TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM Pardus Team in the demo area reserved for companies and visitors. Participants who wished to get information about Pardus, Lider Ahenk Central Management System, EnGerek Identity Management System, Octopus Integrated Cyber Security System and ULAKBÜS University Information System projects were given detailed information. In addition, speeches and panels on "Security", "Virtualization", "Network Management", "Software Life Cycle", "Pardus Migration Success Stories", "Cloud Technologies" and "Office Software" were organized to share information about current information technologies.
Thanks to the open source projects carried out under the roof of Pardus, examples were given on the adaptation of the operating system according to the institutions, its effective use in working life, the roles and expectations of public personnel in migration applications, the performance and data storage reliability of open source databases, infrastructure tools and usage examples used in Linux system management, open source technologies and performance evaluations used in Türksat's e-government software, the use of cloud technologies in real life and system management and open source word processing software.
In addition to the topics discussed at the conference, the training program includes "Basic Linux Training", "Software Life Cycle", "Network Management with Linux", "Virtualization", "Introduction to Security" trainings for institutions and companies that want to use open source technologies in the public and private sectors and individuals who want to improve themselves.
