The Domestic and National Operating System Pardus Strengthens Its Power Together With AFAD!

An important cooperation between TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, the developer of the Pardus operating system, and AFAD

TÜBİTAK enters the 100th year of the Republic stronger with important collaborations. A maintenance and application development contract has been signed between the Presidency of Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) and TÜBİTAK Turkish Academic Network And Information Center (ULAKBİM), the developer of the Pardus operating system. The needs and special development requests specified in the contract signed by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM Manager M. Mirat Satoğlu and AFAD Management Services General Manager Mustafa Havan will be met.

The team IT, coordinated by AFAD Information Systems and Communications Department Head Nihan Karacameydan, who occasionally collaborates with the Pardus team, such as in solving various problems and the Corporate Pardus Software Center, has taken the collaboration to a more formal and institutional level with this contract. Most of the additional functionality that will be developed under this service will consist of software that is not specific to the institution and will appeal to the general user population. Thus, AFAD's valuable feedback and ideas will continue to contribute to achieving tangible results and serve as a model institution for the Pardus world in terms of transformation and sustainability. 

Pardus is being used in 81 provincial directorates of AFAD

AFAD, which began transforming its informatics infrastructure with indigenous and open source technologies in 2015 with the vision of "National Transformation with Indigenous Informatics," has completed the transformation process to the Pardus national operating system in 81 provincial directorates in 2021. 

AFAD continues its "Pardus Migration and Digital Transformation Journey" with this signed contract.

Pardus produces sub-projects that meet business needs

Pardus, named after the Anatolian panther, is a free and open-source operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux. It can be downloaded and installed free of charge from the Internet. In addition to individual use, the sub-projects of Pardus that meet institutional needs so that they can be easily distributed in public institutions and organizations, as well as SMEs, attract attention.

In addition, the 'LiderAhenk'( Central Management System), 'Engerek'( Identity Management System), 'Ahtapot'( Integrated Cybersecurity System), and 'ETAP'( Interactive Board Interface Project) projects are being further developed within TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM.

TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM was established in 1996 as an affiliated institution of TÜBİTAK. As the most important information center in Türkiye, TÜBİTAK communicator operates the academic network infrastructure of our country and contributes to the scientific studies of researchers through its TRUBA e-infrastructure. It provides information/document services, the most important tools in conducting R&D activities in a national context. The TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, which develops open-source software, especially the Pardus operating system, and carries out promotional and training activities for its dissemination, also produces new information technologies through the development of educational technologies.
