DATABASE SUBSCRIPTIONS OF THE PROJECT OF NATIONAL ACADEMIC LICENSE FOR ELECTRONIC RESOURCES (EKUAL) OF TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, WHICH GIVES ACCESS TO THREE MILLION RESEARCHES, HAVE BEEN RENEWED.

License agreements were signed to cover the 2019-2021 period after reaching a mutual understanding in negotiations of subscription renewal of ScienceDirect Freedom CollectionScopus (article reference) and Mendeley (reference management) of the Elsevier publishing house and Web of Science - SCI&SSCI&AHCI (article reference) of Clarivate Analytics, which had been accessible to universities since 2006 within the scope of TÜBİTAK EKUAL Project but whose license agreement terms expired on 31/12/2018. Also, Web of Science – Book Citation Index (book reference) was included in the agreement during this period. We would like to thank Elsevier and Clarivate Analitics especially for the continuity of access to databases during the negotiations and licensing process and for their constructive contribution.

ScienceDirect Freedom Collection which has an important place in the world’s academic community, consists of almost 2200 full text journals. 17,5 million articles were downloaded from this database by the academic community in Turkey in 2018 and Turkey based 6564 articles, reviews and proceedings have been published.

Considering the utilization statistics of 2018, it was found that on Scopus database, approximately 1,5 million  searches  and on Clarivate Analytics Web of Science – (SCI&SSCI&AHCI) databases, 8.1 million searches were carried out. Also, there are 150 thousand registered researchers on Mendeley reference management system.

ULAKBİM realized the TÜBİTAK Project of National Academic License for Electronic Resources (EKUAL) in 2006 to increase academic information production both nationally and internationally, to popularize the information services nationally, to ensure equal opportunities among the researchers in accessing academic information and to increase the competitive capacity of our country under the light of scientific studies.

Approximately three million researches from 283 institutions in total have an access to contents provided within the scope of TÜBİTAK EKUAL Project as of June 2019.

We hope that said license agreements would be beneficial for the academic/researcher community in Turkey.
