As you may know, TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) ULAKBİM High Performance and Grid Calculation Center is a national center that has been providing all of our country’s research institutions and researchers with a high performance calculation and data storage area for nearly two decades and is called Türk Ulusal Bilim e-Altyapısı [Turkish National Science e-Infrastructure] (TRUBA).
Thanks to the cutting edge technologies its employs, TRUBA is serving thousands of academic personnel members and dozens of public and European Union projects with a high capacity through its data center located at YÖK (Council of Higher Education) campus and our existing data center has reached very high occupancy rates.
Considering the developments observed over time in HPC hardware, data center technologies, and cooling and power technologies and our country's needs and objectives in this field, it has become necessary to urgently build and put into the service of our country a high capacity data center that will host new technologies.
In line with these developments, we first focused on the place where the new data center would be built, decided to erect the data center at METU campus as a result of our studies, and we then signed the “TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM-METU High Performance Calculation Cooperation Protocol” on the 29th of April, 2019.
After determining the data center’s location, we signed on the 5th of July, 2021 with the contract-awarded company the construction contract of our project, on which we have been working rigorously. With the signing of this project, we have gone through a phase for the implementation of a project that will meet our country’s need in HPC and beyond it and that will also serve for many years.
