TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, respectively, offers research network, high performance computing, data-intensive scientific computing and data warehousing services from the establishment of the institute. As of today, when viewed the services provided by e-Infrastructure, it can be seen that these services contain all necessary components which are needed to have a sustainable and healthy functioning infrastructure. Following the new technological developments at cloud computing and Green Information Technology (Green IT) projects closely, and interoperability of these improvements with the all components of the existing e-infrastructures has great importance.
High-performance computing, data intensive computing, scientific data warehouses, and cloud computing services are provided by the infrastructure which is operated by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM and called as TR-Grid until the end of 2010, and as of 2011 called as TRUBA.
TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, in 2003, started to operate the high performance computing center with 128 PC which obtained by the institution's budget. Then the infrastructure is significantly expanded with the TUGA (Turkish National Grid Infrastructure/TR-Grid) project between 2006-2008 period.
In 2009, "TR-Grid e-Infrastructure Strengthening Research" project is presented to State Planning Organisation Research Infrastructure Call. This project, formerly called the TR-Grid to TRUBA until the end of 2011, was supported by the SPO. From 2012, on the continuation of the previous project "Strengthening the Turkish National e-Science e-Infrastructure" project is supported by the Ministry of Development. Within the scope of this project, expansion of infrastructure is maintained and updated with current technology.
TRUBA is supporting more than 50 different universities and 900 researchers for their scientific studies to contribute directly, serving in various public institutions and research institutes for their common projects. Also, in the last six years, TUBİTAK ULAKBİM is a partner for 10 European Union Framework Program e-Infrastructure projects.
TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM and TRUBA Advisory Board which was created by TUBİTAK Science Board are working together for developing national e-infrastructure development. SPO, TUBITAK, universities, public, and private sector representatives is located in TRUBA Advisory Board which is a unique establishment for the most countries and is providing technical consulting nationally for all stakeholders of e-Infrastructures in Turkey.
